Just at the exact moment the sun comes out, the credit crunch has finally taken hold of our household. We were surviving it perfectly fine, careful with the pennies, cut down on the none essentials but unfortunately included in that list is the 2 weeks away in the sun. Never fear! Not one to let the kids down, I've spent a bit of time researching some "staycation" ideas. Usually the term is referred to spending holiday time at home. However I've managed to go a little bit further and sort out some half decent excursions.
I trawled round the web on the usual suspects (teletext, lastminute etc), but whilst searching came across this little gem: http://www.bedsearcher.co.uk
On the face of it it looked like the usual run of the mill hotel booking website, however it was only after I had a quick look that I found some truly brilliant offers. My favourite so far is this one: 2 nights B&B & Alton Towers Tickets
I'll let you know how I get on with this one, but we have already booked and stayed with this site previously. A couple of weeks ago we went to visit relatives in the North East, not wanting to impose on their excellent hospitality (sleep on the floor), I thought we'd try and get a cheap B&B or something just for the night, and we did. Stayed at the Brentwood Guest House (was swayed towards it because of the excellent reviews it had already received), and it was as described, if not better. And well worth the £70 we paid to stay there.
